Apple and Thunderbolt
- [1]
- AI: It's obvious that the MacBook Air design will move into the MacBook Pro line.
- The question is if they'll still call it Pro or just 15" Air, etc.
- AL: Thunderbolt is just so far behind in accessories that I think it's going to take another couple of years to catch up and become standard.
- All TB tools we have so far are great there's just not enough of it.
- LL: I think the problem is that because the very thin margins in the PC world the adaption will take time. Just because Intel says we want to push TB it doesn't mean that the industry is going to support it.
- AL: I think there are going to be a lot of accessories for TB because of the specs that are so superior to USB 3.
- AI: Apple users are lucky because they already have something in place that might come in handy in some time. At the moment they might not use it but as soon as they buy their first peripheral for TB it'll be great to have it built in already.
- The notion that one cable can do it all is just to great to pass over by the industry.
- AL: Also the ease of use for pro users is really interesting.
- LL: I think it's DOA, I understand an extreme position.
- AI: I don't think it's DOA. It doesn't cost Apple anything to keep it on the line and why not just wait and see until everyone adapts.
- And what about TB on an iPad. This might be an interesting adaption.
- It's not just a connector for one high speed device. It'll connect everything. And that is interesting.
- LL: We've been here before. With SCSI, Fireware, etc. that tried the same thing.
- AL: These standards lasted for years. We can't expect them to last forever.
- TB is the first connection that is really fast.
- LL: I understand technically, but I just think it's not going to happen.
- You pay a price buying Apple and sometimes that means that Apple supports a technology that will not take off.
- AL: One to one drive USB 3 is fine, but talking about multiple devies, TB is superior.
Not the iPad 3 or New TV — But Apple Planning Media-Related Event in the Big(ger) Apple This Month
- AI: It really doesn't look like that it'll be something that will change somebody's life.
- LL: The last time they did this, they announced 'The Daily'
- Clayton Morris says that his sources say that it'll be about Apple University.
- We also know that Steve Jobs was working on text books. So it could be that as well.

CES What to expect
- [3]
- LL: When are going to do CES on MBW?
- Eileen: Tuesday, 12 pm
- LL: Andy, are you going to be there?
- AI: I don't think so.
- LL: LG will also have an 84" 4K screen. I like that.
- AI: I don't think that if you put an 4K display in your living room, that anyone is going to see the difference to a display that cost 1/3 of the price.
- LL: I'll have a small intimate dinner with the CEO of Ford next Tuesday.
- I can't to find out what's new in Ford Sync.
- I am bribable. :-)
- It's not that we are not for sale. It's just going to be a big number. :-)
- LL: Are you (AL) going to be looking at any pro stuff?
- AL: I'm going to be looking at everything.
