If you want to, like you said it, fork the network, or fork the database, the answer is here. It's ridiculously simple, and I'm starting to write about it at timesn.org. It's a way to format data so that you can write twitter with a simple query, and the data will be on no particular server, but everywhere. You can write facebook, your email client, your rss reader, and many other things with a query. Randal, you won't have to rebuild your profile and everything every time you join a new service any more. The format is:
