  • I really think that haveing the homepage locked down is a good idea, but I think I should have maybe a higher user status, because I really like some more operational say as far as editing pages go. I really think this Wiki is important to TWiT and would like to be apart of it as much as possible. zach276 17:03, 13 January 2009 (PST)
  • I would recommend not making the home page editable by any registered users, and only by Sysops, as I think the homepage will be likely to be vandalized. Fiveofeight 16:00, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Should the "External Links" section only include links to official TWiT pages or others like ODTV.me as well? Kylehase 16:10, 9 January 2009 (PST)
    • It's ok with me if you put any related links in External Links. But they should be about TWiT - not your personal blog or the like. --Leolaporte 19:27, 9 January 2009 (PST)may
  • I'm not sure the column formatting works for all sections. The alignment is off. If you don't see it, try expanding and contracting the width of your browser. I think a list format for sections with less than 9 page links would look cleaner. --thefrogman
  • Added bullets (*) to the discussion. I think that makes it a bit easier to follow. Thefrogman 17:22, 9 January 2009 (PST)
  • @thefrogmanLike what you did, a lot better .

@leolaporte I agree we need asystem so we know what should be deleted. --Jeffs 14 January 2009 (EST)

  • I think it makes more sence for the show hosts to be under the twit.tv area .--Jeffs 14 January 2009 (EST)

I suggest we start a software picks similar to the audible picks on the home page. There are some great picks and mentions of software on all the podcasts and it owuld easier to have the informaiton all in one place. We could do it by platform (windows, linux and mac) as well. What do others think. Philosopher 19:03, 4 February 2009 (PST)

Deleted External Links

I decided to eliminate the external links section on the front page. I think links on the front page should all lead into the Wiki - external links can exist on the relevant page. I want the front page to be as clear as possible and by the time we add all the relevant external links there'd be more of them than internal links. --Leolaporte 09:19, 10 January 2009 (PST)

Main Page Redesign

  • Yeah, I think the Main Page right now looks... meh. Any ideas on how to redesign it? --Taylor Karras 09:23, 10 January 2009 (PST)
  • I added a banner. That seems to help. Is there anyway to get rid of "Main Page" and just have the banner? --The Frogman 11:24, 10 January 2009 (PST)
body.page-Main_Page h1.firstHeading {
  display: none;
}
  • Got it. Thanks. --The Frogman 12:21, 10 January 2009 (PST)
    • I added the code, how does it look? -- Imperator3733 12:33, 10 January 2009 (PST)

Possible redesign idea

  • I was wondering if people could look at the Rising Eagle Wiki and talk about if we would like the Main Page to use a similar column/heading design. Take a look and talk about it. -- Imperator3733 12:39, 10 January 2009 (PST)
  • Leo likes the familiarity of the standard mediawiki. Plus I don't care for the rising eagle template. --The Frogman 12:44, 10 January 2009 (PST)
    • That's the problem, it looks too amateurish. At least we can spruce it up with tables while keeping the very simplistic style we're going for. After all, we want to feel like this is a community effort, like a lot of effort was put into it to make it good. --Taylor Karras 12:59, 10 January 2009 (PST)
      • Just to make sure you're not thrown off by the skin on the Rising Eagle Wiki, here's what the layout looks like on my internal wiki. I had to censor a bunch of the text, but you can still see the layout. -- Imperator3733 22:00, 10 January 2009 (PST)
  • It does look very amateurish right now. Plus, it's getting cluttered and it's not very well organized. We definitely need to at least think of a way to organize this data better. --Steveh 13:30, 12 January 2009 (PST)

I have a work in progress for the logo

Twitwiki.png

Theundecided 09:50, 13 January 2009 (PST)

The logo doesn't need a redesign, just the main page. --Taylor Karras 09:52, 13 January 2009 (PST)

Alignment

Anyone have any idea how to get the front page aligned? Each section has different spacing than the next. Looks a little sloppy. The three columns in each section should all line up. I played with it, but don't know enough about wiki formatting to figure it out. --The Frogman 18:20, 13 January 2009 (PST)

There's a mockup of a solution by imperator User:Imperator3733/Main Page proposal. I think it should be adopted. --Steveh 18:25, 13 January 2009 (PST)
  • Abstain - It works but it also feels to familar and too similar, also there are no links to any project pages like on other wiki's. I'm just not set on it yet. --Taylor Karras 18:27, 13 January 2009 (PST)
  • That looks pretty good, but I'm wondering if the shows should go on the left and given priority. Also the pale green bar is kind of an ugly color, can that be changed? --The Frogman 18:37, 13 January 2009 (PST)
  • I'm thinking just a darker shade of blue (#a8c1dc) instead of the green title bars on the main page. Looks really nice though. Great work. --The Frogman 20:15, 13 January 2009 (PST)
  • I have no problem with the green, but I'll leave it up to our Oxygen-theme guy, Steveh. Steve, whaddya think? --listrophy 20:18, 13 January 2009 (PST)
  • Of the new redesign? It's simple and probably a little better for screen readers. A little less pretty though. --Steveh 11:12, 14 January 2009 (PST)

Main Page Re-Redesign

Hey, sorry if I redesigned the main page without asking you guys first but I think I should give you my two cents on the redesign.

Starters, I just don't like the way it was before. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, accessible and cool. But it just feels too similar to Wikipedia and many Wikia wikis. If we were mostly a few wiki's using the design then it would be fine. Here... I don't know, I might need some few time. Mainly I'm inspired by the design of JoCopedia and I want to do something familar, nothing looking familiar, just looking different while feeling familiar.

Mostly the Main Page I think is okay the way it is or before. But I'm concerned that it's lacking some links to some project or help pages and a something of the day template, but I'm sure that can be added should the consensus be reached. Mostly my main gripe is all of the TWiT show links on the main page, feel free to agree or disagree but I feel that all of the TWiT Show links feel mundane and out-of-place. The category is dynamic because it contains all of the shows and more can be added if needed. I just don't know how to design the main page at this point because I feel like the last one is better yet my opinion is that all Wiki's should look different instead of the same. At this point, I'm confused.

Thank you for your time. --Taylor Karras 12:25, 14 January 2009 (PST)

I think http://wiki.twit.tv/w/index.php?title=Main_Page&oldid=2299 looks much better as the shows can be easily accessible and it looks neat. I also think the main page should be locked down once complete. --Storm 12:37, 14 January 2009 (PST)
Did you not read any of what I said? I don't want the consensus to be considered on how many clicks it takes you to get to a show page. It should be about the design, accessibility and differentiability rather then if the show links on the front page. --Taylor Karras 12:43, 14 January 2009 (PST)
I think what you've done is brilliant however I do think it should be reverted back to how Leo had it until we have all decided on a style. You could make a new article for your idea and post it above like what some other users have done. Not trying to be a pain or anything like that. I do hope you understand. --Storm 13:38, 14 January 2009 (PST)
  • I think http://wiki.twit.tv/w/index.php?title=Main_Page&oldid=2299 is much better. Taylor, you need to think of usability. The less clicks, the better. People don't like hunting through nested links to find their information. Also, you probably shouldn't be making that big of a change without somewhat of a consensus. --The Frogman 14:09, 14 January 2009 (PST)
    • I made another proposal: User:Imperator3733/Main Page proposal 2. I took the content of revision 2299 and used a visual style like http://wiki.twit.tv/w/index.php?title=Main_Page&oldid=2568, which is a nice, simple design (that also doesn't look too much like Wikipedia). The only other change I can think of is possibly cutting down on the intro text. What do you think? -- Imperator3733 14:33, 14 January 2009 (PST)
    • If anyone's interested, here's my proposal. I know some of you may disagree of the shows being on a different page then the main page but I just don't think it looks good on the main page, being my opinion you have a right to disagree. A few extra things I included are a news box and some links to help new people. I'm not asking you to vote on this based on the gimmicks, I ask you to vote on either one based on style and usability. --Taylor Karras 14:40, 14 January 2009 (PST)
      • I think what's on now is brilliant. It should be kept at that unless it's discussed. --Storm 14:43, 14 January 2009 (PST)
    • @Imperator3733 I like that as well. I'm thinking if you can give the boxes a light blue background like Taylor had, it might look cooler. Also the title fonts seem a little big to me. I also wish we could do something different with the intro. I have no idea what, but I'll let you know if I have any bright ideas. --The Frogman 14:46, 14 January 2009 (PST)
      • I shrunk the text and added some color (I basically made Taylor's colors a bit lighter). Feel free to modify the color scheme. -- Imperator3733 15:04, 14 January 2009 (PST)
      • Looks amazing, What a result! --Storm 15:13, 14 January 2009 (PST)
      • I like that a lot. We should run that by the chief and get his approval. --The Frogman 15:24, 14 January 2009 (PST)
      • I agree, whats up now looks great, and its very easy to use. --ChrisJones 19:56, 14 January 2009 (PST)
        • I like what I see. One question. Why two different colors for the header boxes? It implies that the two columns contain different categories of material. Do they? Leo 22:51, 14 January 2009 (PST)
          • Well, with the current Main Page the left column is more the actual netcasts/live programming, while the right column is more background stuff. I think that's a bit more coincidence than intentional - the colors were different in the original templates, and no one decided to make them the same. Also, Leo, have you taken a look at my newest proposal, or just the current version? The colors might need to be changed a bit, but it's a simpler looking design and might take up a bit less space. -- Imperator3733 23:34, 14 January 2009 (PST)
