One element that I did not hear the two of you explicitly mention was the monetary aspect. The "sacred" space on the right of a Facebook page for ads fails once you get into mobile platforms. By monetizing the main news feed, Facebook can begin to address one of the largest gaps in their revenue plan moving forward. That's not to say I agree with the concept, and I think it will cheapen the value longer term. Personally I know my eyes slide right over the google sponsored ads on a search and down to the non-sponsored ones.
