Episode 138

I graduated from the University of Southern California in 2007 with a B.S. in Computer Engineering and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering. While at USC, I met my two co-founders, Francisco and Tom, and we started working on what would eventually become 280 North and Cappuccino.

But before we worked full time for ourselves, Francisco and I were both at Apple. I was there for a little over half a year in 2007, working on the iTunes Store, specifically on the team responsible for content discovery (recommendations, search, etc.).

The three of us are co-creators of Objective-J and Cappuccino, which has existed in some form since 2006. It wasn't until January 2008 that we started working on it full time, formed 280 North, and joined an early stage investment program called Y Combinator. Since then, and along with my co-founders, I've helped create 280 Slides, released Cappuccino as an open source project, released a beta version of our Atlas IDE, created the Narwhal project to develop a common API for server side JavaScript, and released nib2cib, our tool which converts Interface Builder nibs to working web application interfaces. Although we all touch just about every aspect of our company, things I've personally developed for Cappuccino include UI level classes like CPBrowser, and foundation level technologies like Key Value Observing and Bindings.

I've contributed one or two patches to WebKit, and follow the project somewhat closely, but wouldn't consider myself actively involved. I hope to get more involved in the future whenever I can find the time for it.

Information on Cappuccino can be found on cappuccino.org. There are a few linked press articles, though they aren't particularly up to date (google can provide more recent articles). Here are a few presentations given by myself or Francisco which are very relevant:
