Episode 153

  • Vision Of Tonido: Bringing back internet to the masses (As it was originally designed). Few companies monopolizing everybody's information is not good for society in the long term. Tonido attempts to provide an alternative to public online services by offering a variety of personal web apps where end users control their own data as well as enjoy privacy and online freedom. We want to bring "Personal Cloud" term to mainstream lexicon. Also, we are striving hard to make Tonido as simple as possible (My mother can use it). If you know how to use email you can use Tonido :).
  • What Motivated Us:
    • "One reason you should not use web applications to do your computing is that you lose control, It's just as bad as using a proprietary program. Do your own computing on your own computer with your copy of a freedom-respecting program. If you use a proprietary program or somebody else's web server, you're defenseless. You're putty in the hands of whoever developed that software." - Richard Stallman, GNU Founder.
    • "One by one, those apps bit the dust, leaving customers in the lurch. Some of the data was salvageable, luckily, via standard file formats, but some wasn't... It can happen anywhere. You have all your family photos online? Good luck with that. Your blogging software and blog are all online? Have a nice day. Your business is completely reliant on online systems? How does your insurance policy look?" - John C.Dvorak, PC Magazine
