net@night 140: Please Rob Me

Twitter's founder says the Dalai Lama laughed at the thought of using thesocial networking service. But the Tibetan spiritual leader now has anofficial Twitter site — and more than 68,000 followers. Twitter founder Evan Williams posted a message Sunday that he'd just met the Dalai Lama in Los Angeles and pitched using Twitter.

Folks were tweeting 5,000 times a day in 2007. By 2008, that number was 300,000, and by 2009 it had grown to 2.5 million per day. Tweets grew 1,400% last year to 35 million per day. Today, we are seeing 50 million tweets per day—that's an average of 600 tweets per second. (Yes, we have TPS reports.)

The made-for-web TV show — which will be made available internationally — is a joint collaboration between the online TV syndicator and Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment. The show — with new episodes released every week — will take a reality-esque look at the lives of five aspiring artists who are trying to make it in Hollywood. A sneak peek of the episode can be seen below.
